Let nothing be wasted. Especially your efforts. (Take time to meditate on this)
Now that my book is out and about let me confess to you this, ‘I had no idea how I was going to market this book.’
If you’ve been following my book journey via Instagram stories, you know that I wanted to be part of every process from writing to printing to marketing to distributing. Just like that I rediscovered that I am a control freak and I need to chiiiilllllllll.
My reality – I don’t like to ask for help. I low key don’t like showing weakness. Thankfully I didn’t have to go to a therapist to tell me this truth. The African proverb stands true, “if you want to go fast, go alone; but if you want to go far go together.”
I had to prove to myself that I am capable of change and growth. Therefore, I reached out to people I admire, and I pitched my book – Never Too Late To Bloom to them. Sometimes you have self-doubt, you worry that you’re going to fail or be met with rejection. They are all valid worries and fears. To avoid stagnation and paralysis we have to work through our fears to win in life. I had to take my own advice from the book otherwise I would have written and sold everyone a lie.
I got positive responses from the people I had reached out to. I shared my book with them and it took on a life of its own. Opportunities to market the book further sought me out and this was only possible because I allowed myself to be vulnerable.
Most of the people who have bought my book, I don’t personally know. I know for a fact if I hadn’t asked for help, I wouldn’t have received their support. I would be here seated with my books in my laps weeping because I was afraid to put myself out there.
So what if you fail? Will the sky come crashing down?
What’s the thing you want to share with the world but are afraid to? You’ve got more to gain than to lose. Do it for yourself. Put yourself out there and live out your dreams. The year is coming to a fast end but we have another year ahead of us to redeem ourselves and our dreams. Every new day presents a new life to us and we don’t have to wait for the next year to implement. Start now.
